Retrieving Communion

We all know what it is to be hungry. We feel it in our bodies, but our hunger points to something deeper: we were made for communion—with God and with one another.

From the beginning, God created humanity not simply to receive his gifts, but to participate in his life and care for his creation as his image-bearers and priests. Yet in Genesis 3, that communion was broken. The table that was meant to be a place of trust and fellowship became a place of hiding, grasping, and estrangement.

But God never abandoned his desire to share his life with us. Throughout Scripture, we see him working to restore the communion we lost, drawing his people back to himself and teaching them once again how to live in his presence. This story reaches its fullness in Jesus, who declares in John 6 that he is the bread of life—the one who gives himself so that we might truly live.

At the Lord’s Table, we remember that communion is more than a ritual or a meal. It is an invitation to receive Jesus himself, to abide in him, and to share in the life he offers us. We come hungry, and he meets us with grace. We come estranged, and he draws us near. We come as individuals, and he makes us a people.

At Saint Church, we’re learning to retrieve this ancient gift of communion—not simply as something we do on Sundays, but as a way of life shaped by our union with Jesus. As we gather around his Table, we are being formed into the people God has called us to be: ordinary saints, learning to receive his life and share it with the world.

Come hungry. Come to the Table. Become saints together.
