Table Communities

Table Communities are communities of friends gathering around tables across Chicago to practice the way of Jesus together.

We share a meal, follow a simple pattern we call our Table Liturgy, and spend time learning and practicing one of the ways of Jesus together.

Most Table Communities meet for about two hours. They're a place to deepen our worship, grow in friendship, and become saints together.

What is a Table Liturgy?

Every Table Community follows the same simple rhythm. It's a way of helping us slow down, pay attention to God and one another, and make space for the practices that form us.

Eight Practices for Becoming Saints

We believe becoming saints requires practice.

Following the ancient pattern of Christian communities we've identified eight practices of Jesus that we want to learn and live together over the course of the year.

  • Prayer

Learning to attend and commune with God throughout our ordinary lives.

  • Sabbath

Learning to find our rest in God, when our impulse is to strive and earn.

  • Fasting

Learning to resist our hunger for consumption, in order to trust God with our needs

  • Solitude

Learning to face our fear of being alone, in order to find God in the wilderness of solitude.

  • Hospitality

Learning to make room in our lives for strangers at our tables, so that they might become friends

  • Generosity

Learning to loosen our grip on control, in order to be come a people who freely give of ourselves

  • Justice

Learning to seek the good of our neighbors, that we might contend for God’s work of renewal

  • Witness

Learning to embody the good news of Jesus, that our whole lives might proclaim Jesus is Lord.
